forbidden fruit

My frustration verged on tears
As I pondered eating a cherry
My favorite fruit throughout the years
Better than the sweetest berry

The first day I had one it was baked in a pie
The leftover cherries I didn't put to waste
I ate them there then tried to hide
Under the table to savor the taste

Thinking back on that day
I broke out in hives
Didn't know it allergic reaction
to the cherries inside

My mother rushed me to emergency
And they gave me 21 needles
I still wince at the memory
Of how those events made me feeble

I heard some people assume
They can outgrow it
The aroma was so alluring
I knew I'd eat it any moment

My mouth started to water
So I decided to eat it
My resolve began to falter
When history repeated

It took me 3 days to recover
To settle this personal dispute
I learned to never rediscover
The cherry my forbidden fruit
