Poems - the unexpected

the unexpected

feeling that s/he could
write a script that would
play out the events of the
coming weekend before
they even occurred, feeling
that each & every moment
would be so typical, so
routine, that it might be
better to sleep the whole
thing through (sleep
with a chance of interesting
& possibly maybe even
exciting dreams), feeling
that this is how it has
been for quite some time &
this is how it will be
until that last breath &
then,
the sweet unexpected
pitter patter of water droplets
quickly hitting a flat surface
woke him/her from
her/his slumber,
so that when s/he opened the
door to the kitchen,
s/he found a huge leak in
the ceiling & yet s/he swore
that s/he had a neighbor above
him/her---knew it was
raining outside, knew that it
was coming down like
the proverbial meows &
ruff ruffs, but alas, before
s/he even called the landlord,
before dawn had even broke,
something had happened
which s/he could not have
predicted & it was beautiful,
because change had
occurred.
