Beforeskin

remember when
tender had to leave
took your wild with me
deep into the forest trees
high up into tortured green
left hid up moss wet sleeves
I wrote some one-note songs
until that gold sun came along
razor clawed by earthen wrongs
proper time excised with civilize
until Halloween dropped untamed
from empty sheaths hollowed clean
still dripping fame cold red and mean
