Poems - Bologna Journal 1
| | Bologna Journal 1by Pujakins
From My journal For My 2008 Trip to Ialy
Chapter 1, February 25
In the airport
The boarding has begun, they have announced
The first seat numbers they expect to board.
Since mine is near the front I simply wait.
There is no way that I could now be late.
In the air
Time has passed in sleep, in prayer in thought.
I moved my seat and found more room to snooze.
The lights are on, sleep is no option now
I'll simply entertain myself somehow.
Milan Gate A 36
The passing show unrolls before my eyes
Old, young, tall, short, weary travelers all
Going from there to here to where is next
Departing to destinations various
Alone, accompanied, sleeping awake
Awaiting the call to the journey they will make.
Poetic Interlude
Traveling Doggerel
For reasons known to each
Moving from here to there
Travelers gather and then
Disburse to the chosen where.
Enroute, between I sit
And observe the passing show
Strangers all to me,
None I expect to know.
What if I were to smile
Begin a conversation
Would my fellow human beings
Regard me with consternation?
One way or another
Being a bit too shy,
I'll never know the answer
Because I will not try.
It's early in the morning
At home I'd be asleep
Traveling means I stay awake
In order that I may keep
A schedule that's given me
To follow like a sheep!
Among the flock of travelers
All herded here and there
I sit, a weary passenger
Anonymous in my chair.
On the plane to Bologna
The plane is filled with passengers today
All buckled in to fly together now
And I one among many breathe the present time
That sings through every passenger aware or not
Of moments passed, suspended here between
Where we will be and where we just have been.

Beautifully done. It seems that all we do is travel in circles no matter the shape, from here to there, all leading back to where we started, until one day the circle closes in on us; I will call that home.

Thank you James, I appreciate your kind words an your stopping by. I will be publishing more of this. I happened to mention to someone that I had done a journal in iambic pentameter and used rhyming couplets to end the entries, and he said oh, I'd like to see that, so now I have brought it up. Thanks for stopping by, Warm Wishes, Tasha

It's quite fascinating how you can make a poem about the mundane business of catching and travelling on a plane. Surprisingly, the poem still manages to keep my interest when I feared it might make me yawn! Well done... I look forward to further instalments!

Ah Tasha - I'm settling in to enjoy your trip tremendously - and I don't even have to pack a thing!! Tee-hee, I am an avid people watcher too, hardly ever speak except if spoken to first. But always it's so interesting, illuminating. People are people everywhere, always a story to tell. Thank you for this - on to part 2 tomorrow! Hugs, Mary Ann

wonderfully descriptive - I was right there with you every step of the way and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with you. Although I must admit when I first read the title I thought you were writing a poem about lunch meat . lol!

Wish I could take you to a restaurant in Bologna, YUM! fresh is the keyword, Italians are very fixated on quality and freshness in food. Most shops shut for a couple of hours mid day because everyone goes home for lunch or maybe to a bistro.
Thanks for your encouragement toward finishing my efforts. Hugs and Kind wishes, Tasha
