The PTL of ACoA

This woman who looks like my mom
did when she smiled that smug smile
at me, says I could if I want,
that I choose not to join their

circle, hold their hands and listen
to them pray our father who
ar't in heaven but the words do
not fit. I leave. Circles don't

choose me. My elbows are too large,
my hands are too small to hold,
my head is that of a woman
with no god, no good. Not here.

A weak link with spastic legs
can't keep that regular form.
It breaks circles. They form again
and I stand on awkward ground.

For those who don't know. ACoA is Adult Children of Alcoholics and is a 12-step group.

    Thanks for the comment. I did go to ACoA meetings for many years and always did feel awkward during the opening and closing. It's easy to write about things I actually feel. <-;
