May your memory forgive me

May your memory forgive me
For all my grievous errors
I’ve spent too much time in the past
Thinking too much about you

For that’s when it was, in the past
When the two of us were friends
So much has changed since then, I’m sure
You’ve got your own life to live

It can’t be right, what I’m doing
Pretending that time stood still
All these years you’ve gone on living
I’m in the past – a standstill

Possibly you’ve forgotten me
Hoping I’ll forget you, too
Too long I’ve neglected the need
To honestly think things through

And so, my dear friend, please forgive
If you’re offended at all
I’ll try to remember to live
From dreams to real life I’ll fall
