AL JOLSON THE MAN WHO LIKED TO SING

by Glen

He was the worlds first singing star
who billed himself the worlds greatest entertainer
born in may 1886 as asa yoelson
he then became AL JOLSON
He was the first top pop entertainer
who did many films and shows on broadway
always one of the first to entertain the troops
he liked to be first in everything
the man just loved to sing
hollywood made two films of his life
and they brought JOLSON back on top
LARRY PARKS played JOLSONin both films
even today people impersonate him
and sing his songs
if you dont remember him ask your mum and dad
AL JOLSON died october 23 1950

i know its not a poem i just wanted to remember him

i think what was so clever about al jolson, is he brought black music to a white audience that would never have listened to a black man singing it. but paved the way for people like nat king cole, and harry belafonte. and later chuck berry, and little richard. my sister is a huge al jolson fan. - love and peace and mammy - paul.

right on Glen..i think people tend to forget the roots of entertainment..when perhaps it was still about the expression of art, and less of financial gain..at least i would like to think there was some point in time where the dollar didn't rule the soul:) take care-q

G'day Glen...
Crikey, you certainly brought back one fond memory to me...impersonating...In my younger days I only had to mention Al Jolson in front of a certain bloke and he'd go down on one knee singing 'Swanee,' and us kids would laugh. I have seen a film based on the man. He was a wonderful entertainer. Thanks for the memory Glen.
