To Better Days

I wrote this about my favourite bar which closed earlier this year and became a dingy dark hole with no character, no soul...and a same old same old DJ booth instead of a live band... it does have music.... you can hear it here

To Better Days

Today I walked past a pub I once knew
A bar I called my own
The fires burned bright and the music was live
It was my home from home

What used to feel like a welcoming fire
Now has the air of a funeral pyre
Lets light it and dance to better days
When the Guinness was good and The Busmen played

But now that warm place is all painted in black
Its not a good kind of dark
The music is lost and the passion has gone
Its a shell that has no heart

Of all the joints around this town
The Fiddler was the best
I could talk to the guys and dance all night
It was different from the rest

The drinks were real and Pokies were banned
There was no TV to intrude
No RTD’s or Eftpos machines
and the conversation flowed

Once a year on St Patricks day
We met there for breakfast at 7
I drank Black velvet in the garden bar
and the sun shone down on my heaven

The atmosphere and musical marrow is slowly being sucked from society, replaced by mundane cloned boxes of banal bones. I Love listening to live music, lets drink to those better days. Cheers! Fond Regards. Mark.
