Poems - Equinox

Equinox

by winterchild

Around the fire
stories are shared
drop by drop
rich and colourful
and slightly sinister
as the blood
from thorn pricked fingertips
in childhood fairy tales

hearts pound
to the beat of the drum
impassioned with their own flame
while eyes shine
at the sound of a lone guitar
picking out the bittersweet melody
of lost love
and long forgotten journeys

distanced from the festivity
we walk the haunted alleyways of memory
as in the dark nostalgia of
this late summer night
the full moon
with her entourage of stars
lights up
our recycled dreams

G'day winterchild...
I don't know if i'm following your thoughts in words of this poem, but gee...the memories that eke around a campfire bring out the highs and lows of the past. Actually at times I think a campfire is a non speaking psychiatrist.
Really enjoyed your poem winterchild.
