The Food of Love

by winterchild

Tea is my kiss of the morning
it's warm scented promise
woo's me from that
half dream state

Toast, savoury, buttery
satisfies my hunger
with bitter tang of seville oranges
to liven my taste buds
and make my lips tingle
in the absence
of the tip of your tongue on mine

And when I really start to miss sleep
coffee keeps me company
rich dark smooth
a last chemical wrench
from my dreams

Beetroot and tomato juices
run down my chin
the lunchtime quickie
to keep me sated, until

In the warm afternoon sun
cool silky
ice cream
freckled with dark vanilla pods
like your arm
around my bare shoulder

In the autumn chill
that comes with evening
when you are not there
to pull me close
to your naked heat
lentil soup is served

Thick and comforting
with a blush of
piquant chilli
to fire my passion
and let me flood
in hot memory

Wine
mellow
intoxicating
takes me back to sweet
sleep in it's sexy embrace

Seducing me
with promises
that lie beyond my wildest desires...
