Evolutionary Boy

he strolled in
irenic and idiosyncratic

ecru gold chocolate cream
mudcloth

hemp patchwork flap bag
with an archive of protest
pins down the long shoulder
strap

contrasting crochet tam

made me think of
a bohemian
black panther

grassroot guerrilla

only he wasn't a revolutionary
fistful proud of
stony roads trod
and wasn't a sanbanyi
either
exclusive
in communicative bass

he was an oratory covenant
and the people were
waypoints for fufillment

a friend nudged me
said he was kumbaya

maybe he might
change if Michael Richards
stood and applauded

but he didn't
because
we wasn't moved by
temptation

Bacalao a La Vizcaina...

clashing aromas
sweltering thick over deep
fried stereotypical
viva voce vote aspersions

served w/o napkins

i met him afterthoughts later
he told me about
my block
how he was there
on Martin Luther King Dr.
when Folk Nation
laid henpeckers out
for
applejacks back to back
still in their ambitions
that they soared past
many hits ago
by the playground
fence

he told me he wrote Kwame Ture
as a pen pal
for the last 30 of his years,
and acted as if he combined
the names from his Ghana mentors.

back in the day when
his Albanian mother and Haitian Father
cross pollinated their identities
in a country whose language compartmentalize
their privilege.

sometimes i look to him
and see hope on a porch
preaching about mutuality
or "The Angry Man of Jazz"
at his double bass
rekinding the pains of disassociation
when sickness sends people from sight.

other times i look at him
my friends and i fight for
bragging rights about the shorty
red Capricorn
from the Real HU
whose wit makes
chess games
a challenge
to play

To descry
his poetry
now i know why evolutionary's pain
is interpreted for love

It is a journey to bridge a distance
between life lesson after lesson.

Literal and figurative expressions of
honoring

like Jah Jah's coming here
a second life is lived

but not stressed as a ressurection.
