I Never Told You

I never told you about that day
lying on the hot river rocks
while I burned inside
my body so molten
I could hardly walk
back to the truck

You didn't hear my sigh
above the steady thrum of the engine
as I sat so close to you
watching the back of your hand
desperate to touch you
to feel your skin on mine

You didn't see me writhe in my seat
when the pain of wanting
became too intense

I never told you about that day
when I truly believed
I would die
of desire for you

My silence
burns me
still
