Poems - Third Season Nocturne

Third Season Nocturne

Today all catfish are swimming high
in swirling liquids. Autumn
calls them to flip sideways and glance skyward.

Spring, love’s season, drops short of Fall’s hues,
muted tones and crackling twigs
beneath footsteps walking toward winter’s cold.

Industrious people prepare homes
for winter’s hard ravages,
cocooning foundations with bales of straw.

Storm windows prop against scaffolds
like bookends balance leaning
editions of old gardening volumes.

Each evening doors close and shut tight
locking out lonely shadows
in search of a bed before the sunrise.

Skin dark from summer rays fade away.
Evenings edge closer to night,
catfish form schools in the lake’s warm bottoms.

Very, very nice. I love poems about nature...this was lovely the way you started and ended with the catfish and their cycle along with the seasons. I will look forward to reading more by you. Thanks for sharing. J.
