Poems - Summer Home

Summer Home

by maryanns

Warm summer beams
on shoulders clothed in pink
straw bonnets ride atop
shiny tresses softly tossed
by cautious lady laughs
sprinklers stretch and catch
some passers by in play
freckles skip on rosy cheeks
their tiny squeals and shrieks
scattered on a summer breeze.

Warm summer scents
merge with aromatic recipes
sweet enough to taste
on ornamental lattice work
swing honeysuckle vine
lush flowers wind and climb
on tangled shady limbs
up weeping willow wands
to doors and window panes
conjoined in cloistered wings.

Warm summer wanes
in silent rows of quiet rooms
listless guests adrift at rest
blessed to pass away the day
and not to be distressed
by shouts of summer gaiety
from passers by at play
left deep in sheltered sleep
denied their sense of warmth
in the place we store the aged.

Beautifully written Maryann. wish I could still climb those shady limbs. tee Hee reminds me of those days at the cabin. Last day closing it up to go home was always hard.. Hugs Melly

we are getting our summer days in the autumn again for the 4th year in a row. though the leaves are still falling....i think trees know better than flowers, and monkeys about what's going on. - storing nuts for winter - paul. p.s. i'd like to see you in a straw bonnet.
