Visions of Winter

Visions of Winter

Blinding white against skies of azure blue
Mottled mounds of barren earth disrupt the cottony scene
Rabbit tracks dot the land, running to and fro
Barren trees laden only with icicle berries
Offer sharp contrast against the sky
This is one vision of winter

Age creeping up, ‘til at last it takes its toll
Hair graying, thinning, disappearing completely
Lines of worry, grief, hardship mark the visage of the face
Knowledge of the eyes, unread by the beholder
Uncalled for by the aged mind
Thus the human winter unfolds

Spring will come to the forest glen
All will be green again the brooks will run
The hares will romp and play
The world is alive

Not so with man, when his winter comes
It comes just once….forever
So cherish the spring, summer, fall, and winter of life
For there will be no more
