My Jaunty Jalopy

My Jaunty Jalopy

It’s a wondrous spring day, the birds are singing,
And I’m driving in my car, down the road we’re winging
Busting thirty miles an hour, that’s all that she’ll do
But it feels like I’m flying on my way to Kalamazoo
The radio’s playing some doo-wop-a-woppy
As I’m singing along in my jaunty jalopy.

No she ain’t much to look at, with her primer and rust,
Patches on the tires, but a motor I can trust
The top’s full of holes, doesn’t help much in the rain
But we always get there, and we’ll get there again
Going to go fishing for some catfish and some crawpie
And you know I’m going to take my jaunty jalopy

Now it’s Saturday night, time to take my bath
Cause I got me a date tonight, with the girl right up the path
I’ll take her to the drive-in, sit back and watch a movie
Maybe kiss her on the neck, get to feeling really groovy
When I go to pick her up, she’s all dressed oh so sloppy
Says she ain’t going anywhere in my jaunty jalopy

So I leave her butt at home, and go cruise the streets again
And start looking for a girl who’s looking for a man
I’d like to find a cutie who thinks that I’m one too
Then I’ll take her to the drive-in, to see a flick or two
But one thing’s for certain, ‘fore we do the bunny hoppy (heehawed)
She best say nothing bad, about my jaunty jalopy.
