Only In the Eye of the Beholder

once i called myself
beautiful
until i realized that beauty
did not know my name
and i hardly recognized hers

stepped into my room
unclothed
nudist by nature
looking into a mirror

the only truth known to man
for unless distorted
never has it lied

stroking cheekbones, caressing
the neck
eyes staring truth
in pure form

No....
there is no such thing as
beauty

only flaws that we have
come to love
and others learn to
accept

This was a well written piece. My favorite line was "until i realized that beauty did not know my name and I hardly recognized hers" That was an excellent phrase of words

self image is a factor that is questionable at best, but it has value to most. love thyself first. men have this problem to.

This is a wonderful and powerful poem . I recall a certain line in a movie called " Shallow Hal" that was : The brain see's what the heart wants it to feel and that still sticks with me because no matter what relationship you have , you tend to accept and love unconditionally even the biggest of flaws.
