Masks We Wear

the masks we wear
each day carrying them
hiding behind placid faces
unknown, untouched they cling
growing heavy as we walk the years
we are what they seem
or are we something more
in private, behind drawn shades
it slips to the floor
revealing the monster that is me

Wow, this is so descriptive and, I believe, true in many ways. I especially love:
in private, behind drawn shades

Yes very nicely done. We all use a mask sometime. To hide pain or fear of discovery. I have written a bit on the subject myself.
