Apocolypse (The Four Horsemen)

by Zbird

On the hill four horses stood
looked down upon the world
withers trembled, nostrils flared,
restless hooves pawed until it swirled.

The white horse whinnied long and loud
galloped to the world below,
scourged all the land with sickness
spared not a living soul.

In his wake the red horse followed
filled the lands with war,
brother fought his brother
mothers wept and fathers swore.

Famine killed the crops that stood
as the black horse joined the steeds.
The people cried out to God
to not punish them for their deeds

His anger and punishment he dealt
“Sinners all,” Gods voice did spate,
“Not a holy soul exists,
look heavenward for your fate."

They looked up to plead with God
wept and wailed and gasped for breath,
for alone upon the hill top stood
the pale-green horse of death.

Absoulutely amazing write Zbird... definite 10 and a fav from me my friend.

"And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth".

Be well my friend......

OMG I'm getting the chills, ya did lol? I love this write, and as I continued to read your words embedded on this page while listening to my favorite dance hit 'Dangerous' by Cascada, I felt the emotion...I actually pictured this....very fully.

This is like, a really really good write.

Keep it...never loose what your mind speaks. Those words, being eloquently strung together within each poem. I can see ya love to pen out brilliant pieces of work...

This is such a beautiful, classic poem, Bonnie, I believe one of the very best I've read. I love the story of the Four Horses of the Apocalypse... your poem truly is in the style and the spirit of it.
really well done, Mary Ann

There was no 'weeping, wailing, or gnashing of teeth' when I read this one. (chuckle) By far a favorite! Very well done and I applaud your skills. (Low bow) Fantastic.

Well written and powerful. I am wondering if rhyming would have made it even stronger?
