Here I am caught pretending
That you and I aren’t
at our ending
Everything I try to hide
All the things trapped inside
The words I can’t make amend
The words that say our end
But still here I pretend
That you and I aren’t at our end
To afraid to speak my mind
Something about you I don’t want to leave behind
And yet there is no future to seek
You and I already hit our peak
And as I stand here over
our inevitable end
Oh yes - It is so near
Your reaction is what I fear
I can’t quite grasp that passing thought
My broken heart your life does haunt
Now that I cannot give
How can I possibly live
Knowing I can’t truly love
Condemned it is
and others I shove
Feeling sad as you fall
It hurts too much to give it all
Knowing I am broken inside
All true feelings pushed aside
Everything around me broken and cold
All my emotions remain untold
Too scared
to break your heart
I can’t watch if you fall apart
Still what is us
isn’t me
Hoping in the end you will see
The truth is all I can tell
Even if I go to hell
A pretender is what I have been
This is where I end up
time and again

steph, there is a bit of the pretender in us all, especially when it comes to the elusive world of love. You have captured those deep and desperate feelings beautifully in this very sad piece. I love your work and am so glad you're back my friend.

it is never good to pretend you have feelings for someone.. you either see it going farther then where it is at now then it is just time to move on'
regardless of how you think you might hurt the other because you are just holding them back from finding someone who will truly love them
This is a great write I like how you betray the process of what is going on in this person's head

very well done, I found myself wrapped up in this poem and taking it very personally as if my own experience. That is a great thing to give to a reader. Rhyme scheme has always been very hard for me and I never really challenge myself to try it so it's good to see somebody getting out there and not being afraid to give it a try.
