Poems - Patches

Patches

A hairless body of sores
such a pathetic sight,
a trip to the vets
to try to make it right.

A shot and medication
a beautiful cat was found
but, she was wild and determined
to be outdoors bound.

Now she comes each morning
in the bushes she does stay,
until I put her food down
and move far enough away.

I watch to make sure she eats
she comes running when I call,
but to get near enough to pet her
she won’t allow at all.

I remind her she would be dead
if not for my kind heart
but the life of an indoor cat
she just wants no part.

I really can’t catch her now
to get her to the vets and spayed
she’s just way too fast for me,
if only indoors she had stayed!

I see she’s getting fat
please let it be from food!
I really couldn’t care for
another feline brood.

But I know I’ll be there
with all the help she needs,
but catch her and get her fixed
before once again she breeds!

lol brings back memories of a wild cat i trained to tame to and never worked haha he went back to the wild and i could do nothing once the tom cat time hit

Bless you for your kindheartedness! I have a male tom cat that has been with us for 2 years. Sits in my lap, is fed twice a day - but still is wild - will never be able to come in - therefore I worry about him all the time. Wish I could care for them all! I can feel the warmth throughout your poem for this wild little female - you put a smile on my face with this one.

Another fine poem of yours on 'life around the home.' Be careful though when you finally trap this feral cat. (our Jack Russell has a story he could tell you)
