Ann Epiphany

Mary had a way with string
she bundled it around her wrist
and in the morning Mars would sing
her fingers kneading biscuit dough

never sour, or unkind
yet jealous of the neighbor girls
she slit her throat with a datura leaf
and calmly read On Calamity

hiking up her nature trails
and legs and other things that hiked
she found the mushrooms did avail
her voracious appetite

and soon she became hippie bound
the sovereign government must die
and all things good she found profound
a mockery skinned in pretty lies
