Dreams of Delusions

by Arsaces

What joy it is to come upon a virgin spring and drink of its water!
What joy it is to pluck a flower and smell the aroma of its blossom!
Yes, a body has a need for food and water which is easily appeased;
But should a thirsty lover try to drink of their needs in a dream,
There is not so as much as a drop water to quench the raging fires.
Even as our bodies relax in a perfect nights’ slumber,
Our minds are fully awake during passionate dreams!
I ask you is there not in the flame of passion’s dreams,
Where first our deepest hopes did not first kindle?
As a cruel person’s words can have the power to cause pain,
The sound of a lover’s voice can quell the inter-mind’s storms.
So one’s need of passion, like the love of food, is part of our life,
Yet such passions in dreams are scattered to invisible winds.
Food and water are easily obtained and sustained by our bodies,
But the passions of storm-tossed dreams are only delusions!

beautiful narrative write. i've been thinking about what kind of poems generate the most reaction in the reader. narrative poems tend to keep the reader at a distance, so i try to suck readers in using the first person experience. i dont know, what do you think?

best wishes

    I think you have a good point. A lot of my narrative poems are not all that popular. But then my poems seem to be all over the place!. Drachm
