As I was reading this Mark, I could hear Vincent Price's voice. reminded me of Michael Jackson's Thriller video...and it was almost as long too...wink:..a nice and scary write and read..*smiles*

Dear Ilan, this was indeed a new foray for me, the most difficult aspect of which was to create a tempo that coaxes accordingly whilst painting a scene which hopefully immerses the reader within a petrifying cocoon of plight. Now i know why you took such a long break after "Got Poetry Rocks" to come up with the next poem. This is a masterpiece. If i had been working in a College or University, i would prescribe this Poem to my students for research. This is so rich in style, content, rhythm... and am simply speechless, rather petrified.. This is an Awesome write. I sat riveted until the ending, and was "heart-racing" petrefied to say the least. And, yes, I, too, can just picture Vincent Price reading this aloud.

It reminds me of some of the horror stories of HPLovecraft who was probably the most Gothic of writers before there was such a thing! Dear mamaelk, the setting indeed would be perfect, a cloud encumbered Moon, the crackle of a diminishing fire plagued by persistent possessed squalls. The mood heightens as tension grips those assembled as they immerse themselves with the toll enticing flee, then suddenly the fire is snuffed, plunging all into total darkness.

The short single word lines distract and take away impact from this piece. The piece could be shortened by half, and the word selection on this Halloween poem more carefully considered.

Dear Millie, well in this instance I do believe that the length was necessary to create a poetic piece that incorporates the psychological ebb and flow of they caught in a nightmarish circumstance. Anything shorter, I feel, would not have allowed the tension to build and indeed would have left the reader with an end, before the chase had even been allowed to evolve, thus raising the response of too little. The litany of adjectives, in this instance, was an attempt to use a different style to encapsulate the eerie setting and the frantic flee that ensues, whilst incorporating purposeful pauses, to allow the reader to catch their breath. I do understand that types of poems are more alluring to some than others, but as ever, I do appreciate your honest appraisal.

This was Amazing Mark!!
You pulled me into your poem, the story of it. As I was reading I found myself thinking, "Is he going to get away?". Another thing I loved about this was most poems have happy endings (at least poetry like this). They can start out as a bad experience and end up with a lesson. You threw out that common "rule" and I truly love that about this poem. You should really try to write more stuff like this. It suits you

I love the style/creativity, sense of imagery, and work put into this. It resembles Michael Jackson's "Thriller" it has almost the same dark, creative, "Halloween edge" to it. I really like it, not only it was lengthy, it was descriptive. Great job Mark

Petrified yes i was!

As i was reading it i found myself speeding up and sensing the anxiety, angst and terror. The short phrasing helped to create that feeling. One to bring out every Halloween!

Wow this was amazing. Very fun to read and it definitely painted a foreboding image in my mind. I especially liked the bursts between heavier descriptions and dialogues like,

"Flight’s batter,
tatters
cripples
cleaves.

It’s splatter,
spatters
stipples
grieves.

Can’t breathe,
can’t seethe
can’t bind,
can’t be.

Can’t think,
can’t blink,
can’t find,

“Can’t see!”"

simply chilling and frightening. i found myself reading it faster and faster as the drama picked up with each verse. a very compelling read!

Mark - Superb, as always! I had to read it to my husband, a true devotee of Halloween, horror movies, and all things scary or petrifying. He was most pleased and mesmerized even though I am not sure I am quite a Vincent Price sort of narrator...! But I did my best to do a fine tale justice. Thank you!

Wow, quite impressive for so many reasons... First, the format and the wording is just brilliant. Second, it is so hard to keep up the pace and quality in such a long piece. You manage to hit a home run, you never stumbled or grasped for words or slacked off on quality at any point at all throughout! Such a different twist on darkness, that almost leaves the reader frightened as to how subliminaly scared they are!

Very intense!
It was hard to read for me - perhaps because my mothertongue is not English but German, but your writings nevertheless did cause a huge amount of tension. You play with words that I never heard or read before in great numbers like you knew them since child's days xD Very refreshing.
