Poems - Illusion

Illusion

I require a word, any phrase will do,
To afford a meaning to my silence,
For others to view, like a photograph,
In their own image, touched and recognised,
On three dimensional, embossed paper.

The word would encapsulate an era,
A place in time, past, present or future,
Rusty bridges, new Chinese stadiums,
Gilled humans consuming raw meat sushi,
To taste, like blooded adrenalin
On your pimpled morning tongue.

The illusion of forests and cities,
Of oceans and inlets, of other lives,
Licked before, yet, still to be consumed,
Forbidding fullness, the chance to dismiss.

To find enrapture in lands, distant flung
Where coffee is swirled, and supped hurriedly,
A tea ceremony, superior,
To the soul cleansing copper pond coloured
Residue.

A distant star, colonised by peoples
Millenniums before Stone, Bronze or Axe,
Appearing familiar, unrecognised
Lengths and widths and dimensions,
Corrupt without monarchy, Yorktown.

Pushing on the pillars like shorn Sampson,
To find that the glossy brochures were also
Part of the fabrication, else nobbled,
As black Africans continue as slaves,
To new despots and nation rapists.

Yet we dream of waking to silicon
Beaches, festooned with all avenues of life,
Cities thronged with meaningless timetables,
Spending paper and coin to soothe our worth.
All for fear of speeding an eventual demise
That is still hurriedly swirled, and devoured.
In chorus, screwing up our foreheads, eyes,
Cheekbones and mouth to proclaim,
“We feel Fulfilled”, and then sighing,
Ready for more, and more.
