The Holy Stable

He was not born in palace
but in a humble stall.
He came to help the hopeless,
to feed the least of all.
Not with a blare of trumpets
not with a roll of drums
but quietly, how quietly,
so quietly he comes.

He did not ride in a carriage,
but on humble beast.
He came to bring us comfort,
to serve the very least.
Not with a blare of trumpets
not with a roll of drums
but quietly, how quietly,
so quietly he comes.

And were we not so humble,
He could not enter in
O blessed little stable
that it should shelter him.
Not with a blare of trumpets
not with a roll of drums
but quietly, how quietly
so quietly he comes
