Hey, Jersey...

by maryanns

I can feel your hands
through the telephone line
I sense your soft gentle fingers
are just as cold as ice.
Where are your winter gloves,
sweetheart?

I felt an artist outside
shoveling snow in the drive
I sense your strong back is bent
into your chilly work.
Are you building a snowman,
sweetheart?

I always felt your heat
writing poems on the inside
I sense your hot breath melting
frost on the windshield.
Are you all bundled up for it,
sweetheart?

Well, bless your heart
as you ring in the New Year
shoveling feet of the white stuff
while I rest cozy here
gazing out my picture window
watching red robins peck
where the green grass grows
tall in the yard…

Hey, if you get a break
I’d love to hear your voice
all breathless from the workout.
I hope you call me back
before I have to get dressed
in shorts and a tee shirt
to go mow the green stuff,
sweetheart.

* * *

In all reality, this is for all of you
snow shoveling sweethearts
with my warm fuzzy sympathies
for a Tropical New Year …

Ha-ha, you may be right, or possibly studiously ignored. In my defense, we just endured the "pineapple express" - flooded roads, power outages, feet of rain here and feet of snow on the mountains. Thanks for your comments, smiles and more smiles. Mary Ann Very Happy

Tee-hee, I'll bet you noticed I couldn't tell the difference between a "pic" and a "poem"... I enjoyed the change of pace you wrote and then I realized my mistake ... Ah, what a beautiful picture you've posted to your page, Kevin - you've got me dreaming of spring again. Thanks so much for dropping by my poem - I simply couldn't resist writing this minor exaggeration. Cheers my friend, Mary Ann Very Happy

knee high in snow is a terrible seen

Oh I love this, two for one comments are favorites of mine. Sorry to write at your expense, but of course you know I couldn't mow my frosty grass, I'd freeze to death in shorts... but it was so much fun to write it, being as how it was almost forty here and probably zero there! Oh - stop me before we get snow as well (giggles and

Ahhhh, I hope the New Year brings a thaw to each and every poet and all the puppydogs; to Sunderland and London, and all around the frozen northern world. You know for sure we'll get it here, late or early in the coming year. Ready for the New Year (????) Yes, my friend - quite ready to see 2010 end - better days ahead I hope. Wink

Thanks so much, Paul. Don't forget your mittens, Mary Ann xoxo

The temperature here is below freezing. I built a nice fire in the fireplace and the oak logs are burning with their flickering yellow flames. I’ve copied several of your poems and am now reading them by the fire. My tears flow inward and they drown my heart with melancholy thoughts. Yet, I open my eyes and read another verse while I sip my vintage port. Thank you Mary Ann for your wonderful poems as they bring such joy---life is beautiful.
