night flight

night flight

my bed is an aeroplane
attendants help me get aboard
they ask me if I know my name
and where I'm heading toward

my carry-on is full of toys
to play with in the dark
and I think of other girls and boys
and puppies in the park

so just before I hit the hay
I say good night to all
I close my eyes and fly away
and hear the Captain's call

all night beneath the stars we soar
to meet the rising sun
I wear clothes like my Daddy wore
but I don't wear a gun

we're on our way to get his flag
and praise the job he's done
about my Dad I'll always brag
but I won't wear a gun
