My Backyard

by RayBlais

Tweedledee and Tweedledum
Welcomed visitors to my backyard
Sounds of song and colors true
For a peanut or some seed
Or searching high for a home
To raise a family of their own
Some will watch and contemplate
The narrow spaces one must fit
Still others simply sit and applaud
The feeble efforts of the flying hoard
Then there are those that will chew the fat
Before they decide to crap on my deck
What is all the fuss about?
Would think the wild curious cat

The traffic patterns tend to blur
A clearer vision of the world
Where food and family is what matters
Along will fear as they gather
Just like us they think and plan
But unlike us they have no hands
If their larynx would allow
Would they ask us how we are?
Or would they not talk to us at all
Their songs meaning for them alone
Giving us just a token thought
A flightless, large two legged being
Or just a predator stalking them
Fear of the unknown, we know it well

Again and again they come to my yard
A matter of taste for them to explore
Testing the limits of nature's extremes
Nothing to it, to them it does seem
Making their way as we all must do
Enduring whatever nature unfurls
Sharing with me a part of this earth
With the pleasure of discovery’s made
As I perceive something new
A simple bird creating a simple tool
Me watching them and them watching me
As life unfolds in my Backyard

Very cold. I'm not much of a boater but I have experienced enough to appreciate the life of living on a boat .
