Poems - Last Rites

Last Rites

He lay there skeleton thin
begging to be set free
please pull the plug he'd whisper
pain filled eyes begged of me.
I could stand it not a moment more
the plug was within my reach
as I watch the closed door
I did what he did beseech.
I set him free from all his pain
his last breath so weak
no patterns from his tired brain
no more relief did he seek.
He was a prisoner to his pain
now I'm in a jail cell.
For giving him a last refrain
they say I'll rot in hell.
But I say all the gods
will rejoice and on honey I will feed
with cheers they will applaud
my last heroic deed.
