My Resurrection

by ken2shoes

He sits like a stone
at the entrance to a tomb
where my body seems to be.

There is no mention of this fellow
anywhere
in the New Testament.

“Can you show me to the restroom?”
I ask in desperation,
hoping to escape.

No response.

A Sumo wrestler
with no sense of humor –
just my luck.

He looks like Fear
and this feels like a dream.

Dear God
please send
angels, enlightment
and a Dunkin’ Donuts medium with two sugars
and cream

and, if I don’t see You,
thanks in advance
for the coffee
and the grace
and the morning sun
so warm on my face.

Such an unusual and vivid intersection of everyday and dream, that speaks of faith.

I am struggling to understand it, but there is certainly something very appealing about it. On the whole I agree with Fogglethorpe.

I have reworked this several times, and I may have left something out that made it a bit clearer before. In the dream, I find myself being 'Resurrected', reborn, etc but I can't get out of the tomb. Fear is holding me back.

I love the blend of sacred/secular and the beautiful irreveranceof the piece. it reminds me of one of my favourite paintings, called The Entombment by Brad Pasutti - a great swirl of modern life vs. jesus' entombment

I'm glad that you do! I'm lucky because the original painting hangs in a local bar here in V ictoria, just outside the men's room... Its such an interesting and colourful piece, and I have spent many long moments staring at it. Your poem here has a lot of that "blurred reality" feeling to it, which I also love!

Getting rid of fear is probably one of the hardest things to do. Go face your sumo wrestler Ken and escape. Lovely poem!

Don't you worry about that. I haven't either. Daily routine sometimes takes precedence. Take care, Ken.
