Poems - True friends

True friends

Slow this death, it creeps from birth.
But to collect as much as one can.
Short time for knowledge less for respect.
Friends pass, no more laughter.
Just memories of joy, wait for me somewhere near.
Maybe in a fragrant glade, where wisps the willow.
And sunbeams creep across the soil.
I will find you there, waiting with a smile.
Calling on the wind as the finches squabble.

As I look across the lake I will see you in the dawn mist.
Casting your line to your favourite spot.
I will smile in our place, and wish you another fish.

As ale flows again I will recall the fights, such childish things.
I never did find that tooth, probably washed down a winter gutter.
Though not to fret, I have plenty more.
But true friends are very rare.

A sad yet hopeful poem which left mw thinking
About my friendships, I enjoyed the stories
you weaved within the poem, tooth and all,
