Suck Free Poetry Volume 1: Flatearthers and Other Dreams

This book, first published in 2008 and then updated and expanded for the 2011 publication, is a collection of short stories set in poem form with the main focus being the mythical world of Flatearth where, coincidentally enough, the world is flat.

Flatearth is a study of the surreal in verse. The entries in this book were collected from writings over a 20+ year period and updated and trimmed and otherwise knocked into shape to make an enjoyable book even for those who do not particularly care for modern, or any other type, of poetry.

The series title, Suck Free Poetry, was created to reflect two main things: 1) A dislike of overblown rhetoric that has become indicative of much of modern poetry and 2) A poke in the face of those who take themselves too seriously.

Poets are no more special than plumbers. Being a poet does not make someone smarter, being smarter makes someone smarter. But if you competently pursue and hone a skill, then you may actually have something worthwhile to experience, be it singing, or contracting, or, God forbid, writing poetry.

So Suck Free Poetry is not a proclamation it will be better than everything else, just a promise that it has been honestly pursued, competently constructed, and presented for your enjoyment and judgement.
