My Foot Got Run Over By A Spaceship

Last night as I was star gazing
the strangest incident took place
My foot got run over by a space ship,
that was in an intergalactic race.
Now my foot is purple
it throbs if I try to walk.
I told the doctor what happened
but all he did was gawk.
Because after the space ship got me
I started to glow green.
Now I am floursecent
in the dark I can be seen.

Blair_witch's recent Blog entry. Why is it...? ( 876 reads) Tuesday, July 17, 2012 (00:36:52)

Why is it that I cannot look in the mirror without seeing my flaws? I've never looked in the mirror and said "These are all the things that are right about me". It's always been, "These are all the things I have to fix".

We are raised to believe that there is such a thing as perfection. The perfect skin, the perfect hair, eye shape, lip size, breasts, hips, stomach...where does it end? Why must society classify people as they do? It is unfortunate that we are forced to live in an age where beauty is determined by what is seen, rather than what is blatantly apparent just by talking to a person. Isn't it time we teach our children not to judge a person based on their appearance?

I looked in the mirror today. I took mental note about my post pregnancy induced acne. I looked at my thinning hairline and wondered if there was a product to fix that. I noticed once again that my lips, though proportionate to each other, were too small for my face. I criticized my crooked smile, and eyes that are too small. I was afraid to look down at the mess I call a body. Obese. That's what the BMI charts say. I became overwhelmed at my "wrongness", and even let a tear slip from my eyes. I sat on the toilet and agonized on how I can make myself beautiful again. I remembered when I got so much attention for my beautiful eyes, my high cheekbones...my overall beauty. Where did it go?

Now, hours after my depressing episode in the bathroom, I realize something. As long as I'm comparing myself to what society says is beautiful, there will always be something wrong with me. There will always be something wrong with all of us. We've got have the strength to stop worrying about what is going to make us more attractive on the outside. We will NEVER be perfect. But, we can be happy. Look in the mirror tonight. Look at your face, your body. Look past the feature you see that is 'ugly'. Look at what makes you beautiful. What is it? Where does your beauty lie? What is it about you that you KNOW makes you the beautiful person you are? Now take that beauty and harness it. Hold onto it and when you are feeling down on yourself, remember, you're beautiful. We are ALL beautiful.

great writing. I like your poems a lot. I am a selfish poet too...in a different way. I write my feelings for me, but I also do it in a way where people approve. So people will understand me.

+excellent.
