Exalt - Smite
not over me

I'm holding on because of hope right now.
Can't let you go because of faith right now.
i refuse to believe that you're over me.
I'll wait as long as it takes till you see,
that you're not over me...

I woke up hearing Coleen screaming in my ear. "what is it?" I say, almost afraid to ask. "jazmyne the scullary maid, she's hanged herself." panic rushed through me as i jerked over an old brown dress over my chemise. "have you told father yet?" he's cutting her down now. Coleen and i raced through the hallways and round to the back where the stables were. I could hear the restless commotion of the horses and wondered how much they had seen or heard. Coleens pale hands encased mine as she led me further in. "we think she was with child" she said."i think she feared what the father might do." Father had already cut jazmyne down when we saw her,her neck tilted at an odd angle, lips a pale, almost crystal blue. Her dark locks caressed the soil on the stable floor, her eyes staring, unfocused, out the door. The slight bump in her gown told me Coleen was right. She was only 18 summers... Grief made Coleen turn away and stagger to a safe distance. "we must inform her parents." she said and left clutching her stomach. Devyn arrived at noon dressed in his immaculate clothes, the stunning white of his shirt making the bronze of his skin a deeper shade. "you look pale" he said.concern etched on his face. "i'll be fine." i said and led him to fathers study. He had not told me of the reason for his visit and curiosity had gotten the best of me,after all curiosity killed the cat...but said nothing about humans. The heavy oak doors muffled the voices within so i pushed one a little further in and the words "marriage"and "ceremony" drifted towards me. My heart froze. MARRIAGE! No,that couldn't be possible.was Devyn really planning to...my heart tumbled, lost in ecstacy...i was going to marry Devyn. "you cannot marry my daughter." came francis' stern reply.Devyn's heart sank in a pool of dispair. "may i ask why?" he probed. "because she is already engaged" Devyn's heart ached with the intensity of denial. "and may i ask to whom" francis coughed."sir oliver is a respected man.that is why i chose him for my daughter" " but does she love him"Devyn wanted to know."only fools base marriage on love" came the reply."love, lust, passion,it all fades, but you cannot breech a business contract" Devyn closed his eyes and breathed out his relief. She had not chosen this, but even then his heart began to wonder if he could ever get her to leave with him. Would her father allow it? He didn't think so."oh Heather," he thought"what am i going to do now?"
