* Poetry is the way I understand and navigate my way through life. * I have no prior writing experience and boost no academic education. My life journey as been a difficult one. I have suffered physical abuse, homelessness, drug use and mental health issues throughout my life. Around the age of 18 I broke down mentally... this was one of the darkest times in my life. However, at this point I also found poetry. I don't know where it came from but this gift became the savior of my sanity. I found expression and understanding along with playfulness in life that up until then I had not experienced. All this through the power of words which where becoming less illusive to me and more magical as time went on. Poetry allowed me to look without fear deep within myself and also at the world in general, but most importantly it gave me a way to just understand the things around me. As such my poetry can be both dark and ominous while still holding on to the hope of better and brighter things. Fortunately I have moved on from the darker days and have addressed a lot of the issues I suffered. I currently find myself in my later 40s with an urge to share my experiences and the words they conjured. Justyn
