Analysis of Sling

There was this woman,
You see,
Who had a hold
On me
Like a vise grip.
It was tighter
Than a sailor's knot
And deeper
Than a grave.
I was wrapped
Around her finger
And I couldn't
Break free
Even if I tried.
And believe me,
I tried.
I went to bed
Soaked in whiskey
And woke up
Drowning in regret,
But nothing
Could loosen
Her grip.

The love I thought
I had for her
Was nothing
Compared
To the hold
She had
Over me.
It was an addiction,
A sickness
That consumed me.
I would do anything
To be with her,
Even if it meant
Selling my soul
To the devil.
I was a slave
To her,
A puppet
On a string.
And she knew it.
She knew it.

I would beg
And plead
For her to let me go,
To release me
From her grasp.
But all I got in return
Were cold,
Empty stares.
She had a power
Over me
That was both
Terrifying
And irresistible.
It was like trying
To escape
A black hole,
Once you're in,
You're not coming out.

And so
I gave in.
I surrendered
To her hold
And let it
Consume me.
Because
In the end,
It didn't matter
How she felt
About me
Or how much love
I had for her.
All that mattered
Was the hold
She had,
And it was stronger
Than anything else
In this world.
