Analysis of NOTHING TO WRITE

NOTHING TO WRITE

I was up real late at night
Thinking of what I could write
When the air turned real thick
And I could feel each second's tick

As the words slipped past my mind
The structure of verse I couldn't find
That I heard an evil hiss
And felt a presence I'd rather miss

Before me stood Hell's evil king
Bringing visions of every evil thing
He said to me," you're an artist of the word
Your thoughts all realms have heard"

"You could go far with your talent to write
But why is it necessary for you to fight
The thoughts on spiritual matters today?
Its been fine for years this way!"

"Why not write of the great Grace
Of a Faith which shows not its face
But hides to save its power
For that Last and Final hour?"

"You're a man, still young of age
Why not write in a passionate rage
Of a woman's body sweet to the eye
And thus your days pass by?"

"Write of the nature you see
Of free animals and willowy tree
Of the wild and powerful sea
Let that become your decree!"

"Or if you must express your zeal
Write of social issues, true and real
Such a difference you may make,
That all the world you may awake!"

"But don't waste time and talent
On man's desperate need to repent
On Salvation, or your Savior's Face!
Write not! Keep silent His Grace!"

I waited as he finished his monologue
Then I lifted a prayer to Almighty God
And said, "Satan I write to destroy your lies
To rebuild through Christ, broken ties!"

"I write words beyond my own
Praying that men might atone
I write to return all to the One
Who gave is His only Son!"

"I write whether I want to or not
I write things I haven't thought
I write to ease lost pain
And to bring to an end your reign!"

"So be gone Devil, you've had your say
But I'm called to write, and ill obey
God guides me so that light goes on
Till the Coming Dawn!"

So I put down my pen
And let this story end
Shining just a little light
Still--- with nothing to write
AMEN

About this poem

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3 23-24
