The Walk
Mias Strydom 1947 (Bloemfontein)
In total silence I walk
Down to the grey sea
Where dawn will break
But not for me…
Like a soldier
Marching to the front
In empty desolation
In terrified calmness…
For aught is the fake days
of glory past,
For aught is the fake feelings
of joy that always left,
of a life lived and lost…
The sea embraces
The sea accepts
The sea enfolds
The sea whispers
“You too?…”
