The gods have had their fun

I was issued from a whore
And discarded to a children’s home
My daily ritual was abuse
And my nightly penitence hunger

My coming of age present
Was a bouquet of curses
Every hope finely ground to dust
And every wish turned upside down

Every friendship I sought out
Was given in bitter betrayal
And every kind deed I did
Rewarded with jealousy and envy

Every bright shiny ray of hope
Was rewarded with agonizing despair
And every fantasy of intimacy
A torture tool of sadistic denial

I wake up every day reluctantly
Dreading what I am waking to
I go to a fitful sleep every night
Hoping it’s the last one

A dry racking cough plagues me
In these desolate moments of hopelessness
And the flicker of life has run out
Due to continuous decline of fortunes

I came to this world unwillingly
The toy of some celestial naughty
Now after years of torture play
Am discarded in a dark box in the attic

Old, full of dust and weary
My soul creaks like my joints
The gods have had their fun
It’s time for me to rest
