Twas The Night Before Christmas
Linda C Gambino 1954 (Glen Cove)
T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house
Doug was working on windows while Raul chased a mouse
Nana was sleeping in her recliner with snore
While Christina made last minute trips to the store
Joey was working; guarding all against crime
The clock was alive with its usual chime
And Jame was Long Island bound with his usual lateness
I had dusted and mopped with unusual greatness
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
The postman had stepped into Yoda's biological matter
Away to the closet I ran with a flash
To pick up the poop and pit it out in the trash
The house was replete with hot water and heat
We were able to walk with just stocking feet
When thankfully Doug and his helper had gone
I noticed I was tired and son did I yawn
With a clink of the glasses Manhattans were served
James whipped up a batch with his usual verve
And Nana, she too had a glass in her hand
As I looked for some music by a holiday band
Now Stina, now Joey, now Yoda and Mom
James zoning out while the TV is on
And the house was a home on this wonderful eve
For myself, I was happy that no one would leave
The presents all bagged as I just was too lazy
The cleaning alone had made me so crazy
Never forgetting, Yoda nosed each shiny bag
To look for his toy and I knew by his wag
He was certain he'd found it by a sniff and a smell
Or could it have been by the ring of the bell
For each of us knew there was something of joy
in watching a puppy in search of his toy
So then we would gather at table so fair
The smell of lasagna was thick in the air
It wasn't about the food or the drink
But the company of us; at least that's what I think
Merry Christmas!
