Doing To Try
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Exhausting a doing to try,
For anyone to do these days can be.
To leave stress where it is.
And known it would be better left,
Not to get involved.
But yet...
Many who try doing their best for others.
Is not enough done for the ones,
Taking others for granted.
To be accused of being selfish.
Whenever their doing is missed.
And mentioned to be noticed.
As if...
The only life they were blessed to live,
Had been to sacrifice.
Living their lives enjoying to be martyrs.
Since suspected is nothing else,
They would rather do than to sit and get...
Whatever they wish.
By snapping their fingers to receive it.
Without sweat of effort to endeavor.
And when people like this,
Are seen to witness publicly.
Struggling to do the best they can.
To make ends meet.
Taking care of their business,
In the streets attempting to be discreet.
Without fail someone will say,
Heard loudly to hear...
How easy life to have it must be.
'And where on Earth have you been.
Haven't seen your happy smiling face,
Around in quite some time.
Loaded down with all that stuff.
What are those packages packed with?
Money?
Or stocks and bonds?'
'I'm doing the best I can,
To keep my head above water!'
'That explains,
Why your clothes are soaking wet.
I would offer you a ride home.
But...
Driving in this rain,
Is something I hate.
Call me whenever you find the time.
That's if you can find it.
I gotta go.
You take it easy!'
'You know me.
I always do.'
'That's what I hear.
C-ya.
