Enough?
Skye Hall 2006 (Gettysburg)
Poems with words so huge may not push a message meant to be heard, maybe will give off the sound of a dying bird. Hearing it but not helping or changing. So now when voices are silent and hushed I speak up.
Knowing girls from any age stand in front of a mirror and turn it around or look at themselves and think they wouldn't fit in the crowd. Some may hide and not show their face or others may cover up their face but still, feel like a mistake.
Not feeling like you are enough is like feeling a piece of you missing. Unrealistic goals to reach the perfect look is like a wolf in sheep's wool. And honestly, some may seem right through.
Questioning if you fit society's standards like is my hair the right color? do I act my age? or does my makeup looked caked or is my body the right shape? Looking at the fakes of the world influenced by others who don't feel safe encourage and post themselves being "fixed" but to be honest it ISN'T themselves.
I now address what others do but hope to steer you away... Your hair isn't like Kim K's and your body isn't Beyonce's and maybe your face is a weird shape. but there are always others who won't feel the same way you do about yourself and will try to be like you. you may not measure up to the standards of the world but you are enough for others and THAT is an achivement like no other...
About this poem
I have been listening to spoken word poetry and although I am not old enough to address issues now with the world i am able to state things within the mind.
