IN THE CINEMA
I escape to the cinema
To escape my life’s trauma
One is supposed to lose oneself
With the excitement and the laughter
In front of us on the screen silver
Yet on the tapestry of my mind
Are pictures of my loss colossus
No mercy, no respite even in my conscience
Painful scenarios replay over and over
Playing havocs forever in my mind
While the gigantic screen plays scenes of all kinds
Inside the wall of my head all I see are flashes
Smouldering fires of distress
And foreboding dismay rekindled
No mercy, no respite, I cannot be reconciled
My beautiful daughter Bonnie
Was snatched cruelly from me
Her abode now is in the heavens above
Whilst we are succumbed beneath to endless despair
My beautiful daughter Bonnie and me
Like a pod of two peas
Used to go to the theatre and the concerts
So many times to the Cine’s
I fondly remember the art galleries
And quirky warehouse converted aires
My heart ache is bursting at its seams
With the agonising memories
Of my beautiful Bonnie and me
Side by side in the cinema
Starbucks coffee in her hand her panacea
With a blanket wrapped round her
Often she would go to sleep under
Only to patter my hand
When she alighted from her slumber
My heart is bursting at its seams
I am in the cinema with all these memories
Alas, there is no more my princess Bonnie
Cinema isn’t any more what it used to be
About this poem
Painful memories, in the art galleries and the cinema with my beloved daughter, lost to suicide
