I wtached the sunrise
Kaylee R. K. 2008 (New York)
I watched the sunrise
I saw the sunlight reach the trees
I saw the sunlight touch the side of the house
I watched the years go by
I felt joy
I felt love
I felt pain
I felt the sunlight embrace me
I felt content
Every morning,
A new day.
A fresh start.
Another chance.
I watched the sunrise.
I felt the tears on my cheek as the grass feels morning’s early dew
And the sun continued to shine
I knew I could do that too
I watched the dew evaporate
Another chance.
I felt the sun’s warmth dry my tears
I felt happy
I watched the sunrise
I was aware
I know I’m still the same.
I felt the sunlight rest upon my back
I watched the sunrise
Doomed to forever wait for the impossible to occur
Never to be loved but by the universe’s kindness and the early rays of morning
And try as I may,
From light-years away,
I’ll never be able to reach you.
I feel regret.
I feel sad.
I feel alone.
I saw.
I felt.
I knew.
I watched the sunset.
I watched the shadows envelop the house.
I saw the leaves of trees succumb to wind and ice.
I watched the imaginary numbers on the wall tick by over and over again.
I waited
But no one ever came.
And the sun continued to shine;
I thought I could do that too.
About this poem
One night, when I was supposed to be asleep, I became sad, so I listened to the Minecraft soundtrack and wrote a poem.
