The Swift the Gone
Chuck Hinkel 1979 (Canton, OH)
The once amazing eagle lies
Upon the ground before me
Alone and majestic once she soared
From sea to shining sea
Broken winged she cannot fly
As blood pour from her heart
One wing flails bruising the other
And one wing falls apart
The eagles swiftly soaring days
May never again be found
For freely flying seems a dream
While she lay dying on the ground
"America!" I scream, "Get up, now!
It's not too late for you to fly,
But resist the words of your creators,
Then surely you shall die."
About this poem
Without the works of us, myself and fellow creators (and obvious presently, destroyers), we would be victims of our own ignorance.
