The Moon and Stars
You hung the moon
And all it’s stars
Hung it just for me
To see you from afar
Slowly and quietly
Your light diminished
The night grew cold and dark
And it was finished.
I had hardly blinked
But when I did you were gone
As were the moon and stars
You so carefully hung.
I’ve meandered in the blackness
Arms outstretched
stumbling my way through
With scarcely taken a breath.
I still look to the sky
Hoping to see the moon and stars
Hoping for a glimmer of light
A little guidance from beyond.
When I finally see the moon again
Oh how I shall bask in its light.
How I shall soak up every ray.
But I’ll not forget this plight.
I won’t forget how cold and dark
These days without you feel
But I shall sit and talk to the moon
And gaze on its celestial appeal.
I shall drink in its beauty
Not to take its presence for granted
It shall soothe my broken heart
With words unspoken as if enchanted.
About this poem
This poem was written after my daddy passed away. My mother kept us separated when I was a child and we used to say we would talk to the moon so the other could hear us.
