The Plea of A Fetus
Marcia Cofie Younas 1955 (Prescott)
Oh mommy, please don't kill me!
They will cut off my head and arms.
Disconnect me from the life source
That I receive from the ambillical cord.
But child I must destroy you! You were conceived in sin! It will disrupt my life of pleasure, if I decide to keep you in.
But please my dearest mother, just try and give me a chance,
I may become a doctor,or scientist do you understand?
I may find the cure for cancer, or all the diseases that plegue man
Just let me live and be healthy,
Oh please mommy hold my hand.
But you must not live you nothing!
I am selfish can't you see!
You were conceived from a rapist! And incest can't you see. What if you are born defective? Then to God how would I plea.
I don't have time I need to work,
You can't grow inside of me!
But mother, I will never, get to feel your loving touch,
I will never feel your heart beat, when they lay me on your breast
If you let them yank me out of your body, oh mother how can you rest?
Well farewell to you mother,
I hope you live in peace,
Will your conscience disturb you?
Maybe not. It is deased.
About this poem
I was in tears as I wrote this poems. As I watched the news about banning abortions, I couldn't help but think about all the innocent lives of fetuses that don't make it to the world. Yes I cried as I wrote this poem.
