To Julia
To Julia
Fare thee well! and if forever,
Still forever, fare thee well.
Lord Byron
A few last words had already been spoken,
as droplets of a dew sent down by a desert rain, --
and got so thirstily absorbed by sizzling sandy strain --
so words of yours did to my world which laid in pieces broken.
And, presently, embrace -- so meek, so unimaginable
brought back together every piece of wondering soul
in just a single sigh -- a silent cry -- expressed it all:
Oh, darling!... if to stop the time one only would be able!...
Then going down into the vastness of the night
and carrying along the light, the eyes, the face,
the smile, the voice, the nearness of you in your tender embrace --
Whether we've parted forever -- I guess no one would ever know.
Whether had ever we parted? -- the magnificence of our destiny's flow
had shined its graceful light of likeness as the high noon Sun in the midst of July.
