The Meeting

Boghos L. Artinian 1942 (Lebanon)

The Meeting

Our late dog Chicho
was a small dog,
nevertheless during his advanced years
two huge dogs
came daily to accompany him
for his nights out.
Where did he go?
He must have been important
in the dog society,
to be accompanied by body guards.
One night I decided to follow him.
I saw a huge number of dogs
on the dry riverbed
of our village.
They were barking
and Chicho was among them.
Was it a dog pub?
Was it a conspiracy meeting?
Was it a parliament in session?
Was it an election?
I couldn't tell for sure.
Yet it seemed so human like
and Chicho must have been
in the upper echelons
of the dog society.
